The Legend of Zelda

The Legend of Zelda is a long-running series of action-adventure video games developed and published by Nintendo. A young hero named Link is tasked with saving Princess Zelda and vanquishing Ganon. The puzzles in these games are notoriously difficult, and the characters and storylines are epic. Since the 1986 release of the first Legend of Zelda game, the series has developed into one of the most well-known and significant in video game history. The most recent mainline game in the series, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, was released in 2017.

The Legend of Zelda was developed by Japanese video game designer Shigeru Miyamoto and his team for Nintendo. Many of Nintendo's most well-known brands and characters, including Mario, Donkey Kong, and The Legend of Zelda, are credited to Miyamoto, one of the most important figures in the video game industry. Since joining Nintendo in 1977, Miyamoto has worked on some of the most well-known games in the series. He is regarded as one of the greatest video game creators ever.

Link, the main protagonist of The Legend of Zelda games, has undergone several changes over time. In the original games in the series, Link was portrayed as a young, green-clad hero who was equipped with a sword and shield and entrusted with rescuing Princess Zelda and defeating Ganon. As the story has gone on, Link's traits and abilities have evolved. In later games, Link gained new abilities including the ability to transform into a wolf or a rabbit, as well as a range of new outfits. Link's personality and behavior have also gained more complexity and richness.  In the majority of games, Link has been a silent hero. Although his core traits have remained same throughout the series, Link has overall has evolved.

Princess Zelda, the titular character of The Legend of Zelda series, has suffered some changes to the story. She was portrayed in the early Zelda games as a hapless damsel in need of Link's assistance. The character has, however, been given more flexibility and a larger role in later games. In some video games, Zelda is represented as a fearsome sorceress who uses magic to help Link on his adventure. She has previously been depicted as a brave and talented warrior who fights alongside Link in video games. Although Zelda has changed over the series, her core traits have kept the same, her personality and depth have grown.

The main adversary of The Legend of Zelda series has remained Ganon, also known as Ganondorf, despite the series' villains changing over time. In the early games of the series, Ganon was shown as a large, pig-like creature with great power and magical abilities. But in later games, Ganon's appearance and abilities have altered, and he is now depicted as a more human-like character with a range of magical abilities. Ganon has also been depicted as possessing the Triforce of Power, a potent magical object that grants its bearer superhuman strength and global influence.  Ganon is still Link and Hyrule's main foe and the greatest threat, despite the fact that he has been presented differently throughout the series.

It is challenging to determine the "best" Legend of Zelda game because the series' titles have been praised highly by both critics and players. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, which was released in 1998 and is frequently cited as one of the greatest video games of all time.  It has a Metacritic score of 99.  The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, which was released in 2017 and won widespread praise for its open-world game design and breathtaking visuals, are two of the most well-known games in the series. Breath of the Wild has a Metacritic score of 97.  In the end, personal preferences and perspectives will determine which game in the series is the best for each induvial.

The Legend of Zelda video games also have a devoted fan base, and the franchise has established itself as a cultural landmark for many gamers.
